Senior Researchers from Environment and Production Technology Division (EPTD) provided technical training to economists and graduate students from Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, and Tanzania. This training was attended by nine participants who will apply the skills learnt during this training to collect data for Rapid Economic and Environmental Assessment (REEAP) component of Programs for Biosafety Systems (PBS). The training was held in Stone Town, Zanzibar, Tanzania from May 17th to May 20th, 2017. Participants were from Ethiopian Institute of Agriculture Research (EIAR), Ethiopia; Science and Technology Policy Research Institute (STEPRI), Ghana; University of Ghana; Nasarawa State University Keffi, Nigeria and University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The data collected by participants will feed into REEAP. REEAP will develop and implement ex ante economic and environmental assessment for at least 10 priority Genetically Modified (GM) crops. Jose Falck Zepeda and Ulrike Wood-Sichra were the trainers for this training. With this information, PBS aims to form better informed biotech policies.
