IFPRI researchers provided virtual training on the project-level Women’s Empowerment in Agriculture Index (pro-WEAI) to International Development Research Centre’s (IDRC) Cultivate Africa’s Future Fund (CultiAF) grantees on June 2 and 3, 2021. The first session on June 2 consisted of an in-depth review and discussion of the pro-WEAI online foundations module (available on IFPRI’s food security e-learning portal), which was launched in March 2021. The CultiAF project teams were asked to take this online module in advance as a prerequisite of the training. Topics covered in the training included how to administer a survey module, compute an indicator, use qualitative data, and interpret both quantitative and qualitative data. On June 3, the IFPRI team provided 30-minute one-on-one “clinics” to the projects for consultation on various topics including pro-WEAI data preparation and analysis. This training is expected to have built internal research capacity around pro-WEAI as well as women’s empowerment in agriculture more broadly. The June 2 training had 40 participants (19 male, 21 female) and June 3 training had 20 participants (9 male, 11 female).
