Cambodia Development Resource Institute (CDRI) recently completed a trade flow analysis research paper ‘Cambodia’s Agri-Food Trade: Structure, New Emerging Potentials, Challenges & Impacts of Covid-19’ to analyze Cambodia’s opportunities and challenges in agri-food trade amid Cambodia’s agri-food trade flows by looking at opportunities and challenges of Cambodia’s agri-food trade amid the rapid shifts of trading partners. In addition, the impacts of Covid-19 pandemic on the agricultural trade is another dimension of the study. To disseminate the results of the study, CDRI conducted a workshop ‘Cambodia’s Agri-Food Trade: Structure, New Emerging Potentials, Challenges, and Impacts of COVID-19’ on August 18, 2021.
This research study and dissemination workshop received support from researchers from Innovation Lab for Food Security Policy, Research, Capacity, and Influence (PRCI). In addition to PRCI funded activities, PRCI researchers also provide support to research institutions such as CDRI to conduct research on food systems transformation.
This workshop brought together 53 stakeholders (20 females, 33 males) from the public and private sectors, development partners, and non-government organizations (international and local) working in the areas of agri-food industry and export.
Objectives of the workshop were:
- Disseminate the results of the study
- Discuss the findings against the wider issues, challenges, and opportunities of agri-food industry in Cambodia
- Formulate policy recommendations/options for promoting and strengthening the sector, especially for export readiness and competitiveness in the region and the world.
As part of the outcomes of the workshop, one of the emerging needs identified was to strengthen capacity of value chains within Cambodia to take advantage of trade opportunities for Cambodian agriculture.
