In the period 2018-2020, several Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) multiplier and Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) modeling trainings were conducted in Rwanda by IFPRI researchers. The details of the training are provided below:
1. James Thurlow and Emerta Aragie provided CGE Modeling training for Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning between May and June of 2019. The training was designed to teach participants to learn about economy-wide modeling approaches, including SAM multipliers and Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) model. It had 9 male participants. 2. James Thurlow, Karl Pauw, Emerta Aragie, and Xinshen Diao organized a series of training workshops for Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning and National Institute of Statistics Rwanda which was held between May and October of 2019. The first workshop in the series introduced participants to SAMs and SAM construction; and simple SAM-based multiplier analysis using Microsoft Excel and the second workshop introduced participants to IFPRI’s single country static CGE model and how to design and run policy experiments and interpret results. The first part of the training had 6 male and 2 female participants and the second part had 5 male and 1 female participants. For more information, click here.
3. James Thurlow and Emerta Aragie conducted a series of training workshops for Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning and National Institute of Statistics Rwanda between October and November 2020. First workshop introduced participants to SAMs and SAM construction; and simple SAM-based multiplier analysis using Microsoft Excel. Second workshop introduced participants to IFPRI single country static CGE model, how to design policy experiments and interpret results. The third workshop provided an in-depth introduction to the SAM building process, working jointly with the participants to construct a 2017 SAM for Rwanda. The training had 7 male participants.
