Trainings in 2020
A Policy Communications training was conducted for the staff of National Bureau of Statistic (NBS) in Abuja in February 2020. The training introduced participants to the concepts of policy communications, the use of social media for disseminating and measuring impact, as well as how and when to use policy briefs. The training had 15 male and 5 female participants.
A policy brief seminar series was conducted in 2020. This was a policy training workshop was delivered to the staff members of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) and State Ministries of Agriculture from the seven FtF states of Nigeria (including Commissioners, Directors, Deputy Directors, and Senior Experts) attended the virtual seminar. The first part of the seminar focused on: Conceptualizing a Policy Brief (What is it?) Why a Policy Brief? Structure of a Policy Brief (How to Write?)Key Features of a Good Policy Brief Policy responses (Agric. & Food systems) Relevant to COVID-19 in Nigeria. In the second part of the seminar series were asked to submit their top policy priority issue (esp. linked to COVID-19); identify existing (new) Data sources (i.e. what kind data are available in the state related to the issue identified above? Where? If primary data collection is needed (how and when)? ; assess the institutional capacity and support needed from IFPRI in terms of capacity building. It was a very interactive and participatory workshop. At the end this workshop, each participating FtF states Ministries of Agriculture identified one key policy area to a develop a Policy Brief with technical support from NSSP. The first part of the seminar series had 14 male and 6 female participants and 20 male and 4 female participants.
