Several Policy Analysis and Modeling Trainings were conducted in Ethiopia by IFPRI researchers. They are discussed below:
- Cornelia van Zyl and Chris Rue, moderated and facilitated a training session on 'The best ways to provide evidence and interact with policy and decision makers' in November 2020 .This training was the first of its kind. It brought together 19 researchers from different institutions (Policy Studies Institute, EIAR, EPHI and IFPRI). The training was interactive and covered topics such as how to influence policy makers, the content of a powerful policy briefs and the design and layout of policy briefs. Participants learned from researchers how they influence policymakers and convey their research findings; on what they felt worked well to have their messages heard and what were some of the pitfalls in them trying to do so. Learning from mistakes is as important as learning from what works. Dr. Ferew provided the participants with advice on what works for policy makers, how best to engage with policymakers, the timing of engagement and which avenues to take. The participants asked many questions and made pertinent suggestions throughout the training. For more information, click here.
- James Thurlow and Emerta Aragie conducted a training on 'Introduction to Herd Dynamics-Economywide-Microsimulation Model' in Dec 2020. The training had 9 male and 1 female participant. For more information, click here.
- Guush Berhane and Abdulazize Wolle conducted a training on "Impact Evaluation Methods" to researchers from national and regional research centers in March 2020. The training had 32 male and 1 female participant. For more information, click here.
- Claudia Ringler, Hua Xie, Dawit Mekonnen hosted a virtual workshop "Capacity Building on Modeling the Ethiopian Energy System" for the African Development Bank project: "Ethiopia TIMES Model Development" in September 2020. The training had 33 male participants. For more information, click here.
