The Feed the Future Nigeria Agricultural Policy Activity (NAPA) is designed to promote inclusive agricultural productivity growth, improved nutritional outcomes, and enhanced livelihood resilience for men and women through an improved policy enabling environment. In line with its goal and objective, NAPA provides technical support to various stakeholders at both the national and sub-national (state) levels in the agricultural sector. As part of this effort, Adetunji Fasoranti and Hyacinth Edeh organized a capacity training on Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) was provided to selected staff of the Cross River State Ministry of Agriculture and the Staff Agricultural Development Project (ADP) on the basic concepts of Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL). Another objective of the training was to assist the Ministry to develop a robust MEL plan for its upcoming projects. It was a 3-day training with 21 participants (14 males, 7 females). The training covered basic concepts and principles of MEL, concepts of target setting, baseline, and how to frame indicators, stages in the MEL system, development of the MEL plan with more emphasis on the development of the frameworks, managing performance data, threats to data quality and how to overcome such threats, making data usable, and using data for decision making. The participants acknowledged as a result of the training they have learned new skills and plan to apply these skills in their subsequent activities.
