IFPRI researchers conducted a workshop aimed to inform key agricultural development challenges, opportunities, and investments in Papua New Guinea (PNG) to evaluate options to improve competitiveness, spur economic growth, and jumpstart the agricultural transformation process. The audiences included the PNG government staff, the donors, the international and local NGOs in PNG, and the PNG and international researchers in PNG. The workshop had 60 participants (30 males, 30 females). Peixun Fang from IFPRI worked with Papua New Guinea National Agriculture Research Institute (NARI) researchers on several data and analysis tools and methods including qualitative interview methods, snowball sampling, questionnaire design and survey pretesting. In addition, Mekamu Kedir from IFPRI worked with the FPDA to outline methods for food price data collection and database management. Finally the IFPRI team worked with NARI researchers and presented to NARI staff on agri-food system transformation and understanding importance of efficient value chain node coordination.
