USAID’s CACCI – Asia supported Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), which in collaboration with IFPRI and Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), conducted an ‘International Workshop on Climate Change and Agriculture: Methodologies and Policy Issues’ in Jan 2023. It was a three-day workshop designed for 30 face-to-face participants and 25 online participants from selected Asian countries Agricultural researchers / professionals, environmentalists, policy makers, managers, analysts, leaders’ governments, and non-governmental organizations. Suresh Babu made an in-person presentation at the workshop on ‘Policy Process and Climate Change’ where he discussed climate change challenges in Asia, CACCI-Asia as a solution, and Tajikistan work as CACCI implemented case study. Participants were awarded certificates of participation by TNAU. A climate change policy analysis network is planned to be managed by TNAU, in which regular communication on policy frameworks and analytical approaches will be discussed along with how to make research policy linkages in the participating countries.
After the workshop, Suresh Babu also had interactive sessions with TNAU faculty and students on Jan 18, 2023. He conducted a capacity strengthening session on the CACCI approach and related climate change issues with 4 faculty members (2 male, 2 female). He also held another session with TNAU PhD and MS level students on future resilient opportunities for climate resilient agriculture and the role of the CACCI approach in identifying such opportunities for a new generation of climate scientists and policy analysts. The session was attended by eight male and seven female students.
