IFPRI’s South Asia Office, in partnership with Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS), hosted a two-day training program on Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) agricultural trade analysis on February 17th and 18th, 2023 in Puducherry, India. The training had 16 male and 18 female participants. It was attended by a diverse group of young researchers and policy analysts from leading think tanks and institutions across India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, with a balanced gender representation.
The training was led by experts from different fields including Dr. Devesh Roy (IFPRI), Dr. C. Veeramani (Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research-IGIDR), Dr. S. K. Mohanty (RIS), Dr. Mamata Pradhan (IFPRI), Dr. Raka Saxena (ICAR-National Institute of Agricultural Economics and Policy Research NIAP), Dr. K N Selvaraj (Tamil Nadu Agricultural University), Dr. Sendhil R. (Pondicherry University), Dr. Shaikh Mohd. Mouzam (Punjab Agricultural University), Dr. Pankhuri Gaur (RIS), Sunil Saroj and Abul Kamar (IFPRI). It was attended by a diverse group of young researchers and policy analysts from leading think tanks and institutions across India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, with a balanced gender representation.
The program was designed to promote a better understanding of the current agricultural trade challenges faced globally as well as regionally. Its primary emphasis was on enhancing participants' capacity to analyze agricultural trade relations on bilateral, regional, and multilateral levels. Along with theoretical discussions, the program offered practical training in empirical trade analysis with the most recent methodological innovations and familiarizing participants with the type of data needed towards acquiring essential skills.
