A consultative meeting was held with the Vice Chairman and Members of the State Planning Commission, Tamil Nadu, in Sept 2023 to discuss how the outcomes of an upcoming project funded by Global Methane Hub on strengthening institutional capacity for methane emission reduction in rice farming systems in Tamil Nadu state could be mainstreamed in line with the Tamil Nadu Climate Change Mission and Tamil Nadu State Action Plan on Climate Change (TNSAPCC). Discussions focused on the project objectives, importance of methane reduction in rice systems as a major priority for the state and scaling up of methane reduction technologies in rice production. The project will collaborate with the State Planning Commission to identify pathways for scaling up methane reduction technologies through the State Department of Agriculture, Public Extension System, and climate action programming through the local administration. The results of the project will be reported periodically through consultative meeting organized with the State Planning Commission involving high level decision makers from the Ministries of Agriculture and Environment and Climate Change, and Tamil Nadu Agricultural University.
Another stakeholder discussion meeting for project proposal development and implementation planning was held at Dharmapuri KVK, Tamil Nadu, India in Sept 2023.
