RIS, the South Asia regional hub under PRCI, has been keenly focusing on examining the prospects and role of agriculture and its specific sub-sectors in fostering the process of intraregional trade in the BIMSTEC region. In 2021, RIS organized a regional workshop ‘Exploring Cooperation and Sustainable Agriculture in the BIMSTEC’ in October 2021. The workshop identified emerging policy issues and brought the regional countries together to discuss and develop consensus on the research priorities and share research and analysis-based evidence. Policy researchers and policy makers from India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, and Thailand identified regional agriculture trade issues common to these countries and emphasized the need for a regional policy research agenda. RIS has prepared a book volume 'Exploring Cooperation in Sustainable Agriculture and Value Addition in BIMSTEC Region' compiling the research papers received for the workshop. Overall, this book highlights the importance of investigating potential avenues for regional cooperation among all members of BIMSTEC in areas of agricultural trade. In order to stabilize prices, promote regional food security, increase production and productivity, and establish resilient value chains, the chapters urges the BIMSTEC member states to work more closely together.
