To support the ongoing collaboration between IFPRI and the Department of Agriculture and Livestock (DAL), PNG, in revising the National Food Security Policy (NFSP) 2017-2027, a two-week data analysis training program was organized for DAL analysts in Aug-Sept 2024. The hands-on training sessions organized by Emily Schmidt, Rishabh Mukerjee, Helmtrude Sikas Iha, and Harry Gimiseve were designed to equip participants with essential skills in data management, interpretation and analysis of the 2023 rural household survey data using the Stata statistical software. Key objectives of the training included familiarizing analysts with data management techniques and enhancing their capacity to derive key insights on agricultural and nutritional indicators to support the NFSP review. This training aligns with IFPRI’s main goals of capacity building, which include offering specialized training programs to strengthen the skills of PNG researchers in undertaking applied research and to equip them with the analytical capacity needed to engage in policy and intervention dialogues at the department.
